Parents & Families

As a parent or family supporter of a new anteater, we want to congratulate you on your student’s accomplishments! There are also many unknowns ahead as you prepare to navigate this change together. We are here to support you through the Parent/Family Orientation Program (POP) so you and your student know the various resources available to both of you to get the most out of your UCI experience.

We offer a 1-day Parent/Family Orientation Program during each Student Orientation Program:

Parents & Family Supporters of First-Year Students

  • It is completely optional for parents or family supporters to attend orientation. We do not offer any online or virtual POP experience. Anyone a student considers to be family supporter is welcome to make a reservation for POP.
  • We offer ten POP dates throughout the summer. POP takes place on the second day of each SPOP. Day 1 of SPOP is for students only – there is no family component to Day 1 of SPOP.
  • You must make a reservation for the POP date you want to attend. Each POP has a limited capacity, and we cannot guarantee that every student will get to bring a guest. We recommend that you book your POP reservation as early as possible. Because of the limited capacity for POP, we cannot guarantee that we will accommodate day-of POP reservations.
  • POP reservations will become available with your student’s SPOP Reservation Window. Please check in with your student regarding their Reservation Window. POP reservations are completely separate from student SPOP reservations. When your student makes a SPOP reservation, the reservation is only for them to attend SPOP. After your student makes a SPOP reservation, they can find the POP reservation link on their SPOP Dashboard.

  • Because POP is a one-day event, we do not provide overnight accommodations for any parents or family members. The overnight accommodations provided for students are for students only. If you need overnight accommodations to attend POP, you will need to book your own accommodations. We recommend reviewing this list of local hotels that may provide a discount for UCI-related stays. Please do not book any travel accommodations before you have a confirmed POP reservation.
  • We offer 2 Parent/Family Orientation Programs delivered completely in Spanish! If your family wants to receive all information presented during POP in Spanish, they should make a reservation for one of our two POP en Español Programs. Please note, space is extremely limited for POP en Español, so please make a reservation as soon as you know you want to attend.

Parents & Family Supporters of Transfer Students

  • It is completely optional for parents or family supporters to attend orientation. We do not offer any online or virtual POP experience. Anyone a student considers to be family supporter is welcome to make a reservation for POP.
  • As a parent or family supporter of a transfer student, you are welcome to make a reservation to attend any POP event, including the events that correspond with a SPOP date:
    • mini-TSPOP is a 1-day event for both transfer students and their parents or family supporters.
    • TSPOP is a 2-day, 1-night overnight event for transfer students. There is a POP event on Day 2 of TSPOP. Day 1 of TSPOP is for students only – there is no family component to Day 1 of TSPOP.
    • SPOP is a 2-day, 1-night overnight event for transfer students. There is a POP event on Day 2 of every SPOP. Day 1 of SPOP is for students only – there is no family component to Day 1 of SPOP. The content of POP is applicable for family supporters of both first-year and transfer students.

POP Fees

POP Fees will be available when Reservation Windows open. Please continue to check our website for updates.

All students are billed for orientation on their Fall Bill in their ZotAccount. Their student orientation fee only covers the cost of the student attending and does not include the cost of any guest to attend orientation.

Because we cannot add the parent or family supporter fee to the student bill, we collect payment for POP reservations at the time of booking your reservation. You will need to make your POP fee payment to confirm your reservation. If you have not paid for POP, you do not have a confirmed reservation.

POP Dates & Times

Check-in for POP begins at 8:20 AM, and we highly recommend that you arrive to check-in early. POP programming ends around 5:00 PM.
