As a parent or family supporter of a new Anteater, we want to congratulate you on your student’s accomplishments! There are also many unknowns ahead as you prepare to navigate this change together. We are here to support you through the Parent/Family Orientation Program (POP) so you and your student know the various resources available to both of you to get the most out of your UCI experience.

Parents & Family Supporters of First-Year & Transfer Students

  • It iscompletely optionalfor parents or family supporters to attend orientation. We do not offer any online or virtual POP experience. Anyone a student considers to be family supporter is welcome to make a reservation for POP.
  • We offer ten POP dates throughout the summer. POP takes place on the second day of each SPOP. Day 1 of SPOP is for students only – there is no family component to Day 1 of SPOP.
    • If you are a parent/family supporter of a transfer student, you are welcome to make a reservation to attend any POP event, including the events that correspond to a SPOP date. The content of POP is applicable for family supporters of both first-year and transfer students.
  • You must make a reservation for the POP date you want to attend. Each POP has a limited capacity, and we cannot guarantee that every student will get to bring a guest. We recommend that you book your POP reservation as early as possible. Because of the limited capacity for POP, we cannot guarantee that we will accommodate day-of POP reservations.
  • POP reservations will open when your student’s Reservation Window opens. Please note that POP reservations are completely separate from student SPOP reservations. After your student makes their SPOP reservation, they can find the POP reservation link on their SPOP Dashboard.
    • Your student must use their UCInetID and password to log into CampusGroups and make a reservation for POP. If they are not logged in, it will say they do not have access. 

  • Because POP is a one-day event, we do not provide overnight accommodations for any parents or family members. The overnight accommodations provided for students are for students only. If you need overnight accommodations to attend POP, you will need to book your own accommodations. We recommend reviewing this list of local hotels that may provide a discount for UCI-related stays. Please do not book any travel accommodations before you have a confirmed POP reservation.
  • We offer 2 Parent/Family Orientation Programs delivered completely in Spanish! If your family wants to receive all information presented during POP in Spanish, they should make a reservation for one of our two POP en Español Programs. Please note, space is extremely limited for POP en Español, so please make a reservation as soon as you know you want to attend.

POP Fees

  • We collect payment for POP reservations at the time of booking your reservation. You will need to make your payment to confirm your reservation. If you have not paid for POP, you do not have a confirmed reservation.

POP Dates & Times

Check-in for POP begins at 8:20 AM, and we highly recommend that you arrive to check-in early. POP programming ends around 5:00 PM.
