UCI Orientation

International Orientation

Section 1

Welcome incoming International Students!

We can’t wait to meet you at our International Student Parent Orientation Program (ISPOP)!

It is a campus expectation that all incoming first-year students, including international students, attend an orientation program.

ISPOP is for first-year international students entering UCI for their first year of college. This program is a three-day, two-night welcome and transition into our campus. At ISPOP, participants will receive important information and resources to help them transition to UCI and will also learn from our student volunteers, staff, and faculty about student life as well as campus and U.S. culture. Participants will have an opportunity to learn what being an anteater is all about!

Note: International transfer students are not required to attend orientation. Please refer to the Transfer Orientation page for more information about our transfer programs.

What's the Difference Between SPOP and ISPOP?

If you are an international first-year and have attended another U.S. school (for example, high school or language program) you will receive a SEVIS transfer I-20 from UCI, you are able to stay in the U.S. during the summer months. You may also travel outside the U.S. and return anytime during the summer with your UCI I-20. You have the option of attending SPOP or ISPOP.

If you cannot attend any orientation session, including ISPOP for international first-year students, you will need to request an exception. This can be done from within the reservation process. If an Exception for orientation is granted, you will be contacted with information on how to sign up for alternative academic advising.

For further information about your student visa document, please refer to the International Center webpage for more information or email internationalcenter@uci.edu.

Program Dates for International Orientation

Academic advising will not take place during ISPOP. Your academic school will contact you with more information about academic advising and course registration.
